Major Rail Project in Marrakech-Safi Enters Key Preparatory Phase

Mohammedia – The Governor of the Marrakech-Safi region, Khatib El Hebil, and the Director General of the National Railways Office (ONCF), Mohamed Rabie Khlie, chaired on Thursday a coordination meeting on a major railway project in the region.

The meeting took place in the presence of the ONCF Deputy Director General, along with executives and officials from the Office, as well as representatives of the Marrakech municipal council and directors and heads of the relevant decentralized public services.

According to a statement from the Wilaya of the Marrakech-Safi region, the meeting provided an opportunity to present the different components of the project.

An on-site presentation delivered by ONCF executives reviewed the overall vision of the railway route, the financial structure of the project, the implementation timelines, and the technical and logistical aspects related to communications, workforce mobilization, and site management.

The presentation also addressed the construction and development of a set of new railway stations along the train route within the region.

Speaking on this occasion, ONCF Director General Mohamed Rabie Khlie stated that the project will be carried out according to the highest quality standards, given its strategic importance on both the regional and national levels.

He also praised the significant efforts made by the local authorities, highlighting the effective coordination and constructive collaboration that marked the different phases of preparation.

Khlie further expressed his confidence that the system concerned will contribute to elevating this structuring project to the level of the aspirations of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in perfect harmony with the Royal Vision.

Traffic, architecture, and safety emphasized by the Wali

For his part, Wali Khatib El Hebil stressed the need to ensure normal traffic flow during the execution of the works.

He called for taking all necessary measures to avoid disrupting road traffic and to guarantee good travel conditions for citizens throughout the construction period.

He also emphasized the importance of taking into account the unique architectural character of the city of Marrakech, calling for ensuring that the components and architectural design of the project are in harmony with the city’s urban and aesthetic identity.

In addition, he urged strict compliance with prevention and safety standards throughout all phases of the project in order to guarantee the protection of work teams, users, and the environment of the construction sites.

At the end of the meeting, El Hebil called for strengthening continuous coordination among the various stakeholders involved, with the aim of ensuring rigorous monitoring of the implementation phases and adherence to the approved deadlines.

He underlined the strategic value of the project within the framework of reinforcing connectivity between regions and supporting the economic and development dynamics currently underway in the Marrakech-Safi region.
