Agadir – LG Energy Solution, Stellantis, and NextStar Energy announced that LG Energy Solution will acquire full ownership of NextStar Energy, following Stellantis’ sale of its 49% stake in the joint venture.
Established in 2022, NextStar Energy was created to build Canada’s first large-scale battery manufacturing facility in Windsor, Ontario, marking a pivotal step for domestic battery production.
Danies Lee, CEO of NextStar Energy remarked in a statement that “this new ownership structure strengthens Canada’s position as a leader in battery manufacturing.”
“It provides long-term certainty to continue investing in our Canadian workforce and our manufacturing capacity while delivering sustained economic benefits for Canada and Ontario,” he added.
NextStar Energy serves as a key pillar of Canada’s advanced manufacturing and clean-energy landscape, the facility strengthens domestic battery production, bolsters the North American supply chain, and enhances the country’s industrial competitiveness.
Growth under LG Energy Solution’s full leadership
Under the new ownership, NextStar Energy will draw on LG Energy Solution’s advanced technology and international operational experience to expand its reach to a wider range of clients, especially within the Energy Storage System (ESS) market, while adapting more swiftly to changing market demands.
Stellantis will continue as a key customer, sourcing batteries from the facility to support its worldwide electrification efforts. Headquartered in the Netherlands, the auto manufacturing giant has a prominent regional hub in Casablanca.
David Kim, CEO of LG Energy Solution said that the full ownership of NextStar Energy will be key for the company to respond to growing demand, especially from the ESS market, and “position us to play a key role in Canada’s EV industry by securing additional North American-based customers.”
“LG Energy Solution sees growth opportunities in North America by situating a key production hub in Canada,” he noted.
For his part Antonio Filosa, CEO of Stellantis shared that “by enabling LG Energy Solution to fully leverage the Windsor facility’s capacity, we are strengthening its long-term viability while securing the battery supply for our electric vehicles.” He added that this marks a “smart, strategic step” for Stellantis, supporting its customers, Canadian operations, and our global electrification roadmap.
This agreement positions NextStar Energy as a key player in the global clean-energy transition. By expanding battery production in North America, it strengthens the EV and energy storage supply chains, supports renewable energy adoption, and accelerates the worldwide shift toward low-carbon technologies.
Beyond Canada, the facility’s growth contributes to global industrial resilience, technological innovation, and the broader effort to meet international climate and decarbonization goals.
