Jauan Jennings, Brock Purdy out vs. Cardinals

The San Francisco 49ers will need to overcome a new absence in Week 3 to beat the Arizona Cardinals.

A few hours before kickoff Sunday morning the 49ers downgraded quarterback Brock Purdy and wide receiver Jauan Jennings to out for the team’s home opener. Both players were listed as questionable. Purdy was a limited participant all week while Jennings was a non-participant.

Purdy is still working through the toe injury that he sustained in the regular season opener. His participation pattern leading up to Week 3 is a good sign for his potential return in Week 4 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Mac Jones will start against the Cardinals with practice squad elevation Adrian Martinez backing him up.

Jennings has been bit twice by the injury bug this season. He hurt his shoulder in Week 1, then suffered an ankle injury in Week 2 against the New Orleans Saints. His absence leaves the 49ers without a ton of options at wide receiver. Ricky Pearsall and Kendrick Bourne are the only WRs on the team with receptions this year. Marquez Valdes-Scantling is the only other WR with a target. Skyy Moore and Malik Turner will round out the receiving corps Sunday for Jones.

The rest of the 49ers group of inactive players will be announced at 11:55am Pacific Time on Sunday.
