Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool meet on Wednesday night in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final, with both European heavyweights aiming to take an early step toward the last four.

PSG head into the quarterfinal as defending European champions and currently lead Ligue 1 by four points. Luis Enrique’s side also looked dominant in the previous round, brushing aside Chelsea 8–2 on aggregate to book their place in the last eight.

Liverpool on the other hand are going through a more challenging period under Arne Slot. The Reds have suffered two consecutive Premier League defeats and were recently knocked out of the FA Cup following a 4–0 loss to Manchester City, making the Champions League their biggest focus at this stage of the season.

The tie also carries recent history. The two sides met in last season’s round of 16, where Liverpool won the first leg 1–0 in Paris, before PSG responded with the same scoreline at Anfield and eventually advanced 4–1 on penalties.

With the head-to-head record perfectly balanced at three wins each, Wednesday’s clash promises another tight European night.

    How & Where to Watch

The match will be broadcast on beIN Sports, Canal+, and TNT Sports.

    PSG Team News

PSG head into the first leg with some important absences despite naming a 21-man squad.

Bradley Barcola has returned to training after an ankle sprain but has been ruled out for this match, with Luis Enrique opting not to take any risks.

Fabián Ruiz remains unavailable due to a knee injury sustained in January and continues his individual recovery program. Presnel Kimpembe remains a long-term absentee due to an Achilles tendon issue.

There is however the return of Senny Mayulu to the squad.

PSG’s expected XI (4–3–3): Donnarumma; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Škriniar, Nuno Mendes; Vitinha, Zaïre-Emery, Ruiz; Dembélé, Ramos, Kvaratskhelia.

    Liverpool Team News

Liverpool also travel with a 21-man squad and have their own injury concerns.

Good news is that Alexander Isak returns to the squad for the first time since December after recovering from a fibula fracture. He is not expected to start but could feature from the bench.

Goalkeeper Alisson Becker remains unavailable due to a muscle injury, meaning Giorgi Mamardashvili is set to start in goal.

Defensively, Conor Bradley is ruled out for the remainder of the season with a knee injury, and Wataru Endo is unavailable with an ankle injury and is not expected back until late May. Stefan Bajčetić is also out with a hamstring issue.

Liverpool’s expected XI (4–2–3–1): Mamardashvili; Alexander-Arnold, Konaté, Van Dijk, Robertson; Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Salah, Szoboszlai, Díaz; Núñez.

    • Score Prediction: PSG 2–1 Liverpool
