Agadir – Morocco stands out as the safest country to travel to in Africa and ranks 42nd globally among the 50 top‑ranked countries worldwide, according to HelloSafe’s “Safest Countries in the World 2026” report.
The travel insurance intermediary’s index measures five major dimensions of travel safety, including public safety and crime, political stability, health security, cybersecurity and environmental risk to provide a broad context of relative safety around the world.
In the 2026 ranking, Morocco is placed first among African countries, ahead of Tunisia. This makes it the top‑ranked African destination with a safety index 73.25/ 100.
While not ranked among the very highest globally, due to broader economic and infrastructure differences, Morocco’s performance outranks that of its regional counterparts.
Globally, Morocco is ranked 42nd overall out of the top 50 safest countries for travellers in 2026. While nations from northern Europe dominate the highest positions, such as Iceland, Switzerland and Norway.
In 2025, Morocco was ranked as the fifth‑safest country in Africa by the travel agency Altezza Travel, based on an analysis of multiple international safety and development indices such as the Global Peace Index, Global Terrorism Index, Crime Index, Global Safety Index, KOF Globalisation Index and Human Development Index.
The report attributed Morocco’s placement to its stable political environment, developed financial markets, robust infrastructure, minimal terrorism influence and relatively low crime rate, noting that the country outperformed many other nations in global peace and recorded zero terrorism incidents recently.
This positioned Morocco among Africa’s leading safe travel destinations, trailing countries like Mauritius, Ghana, Zambia and Namibia in that specific assessment.
Morocco stands as an appealing global destination
Morocco’s profile as a global tourism destination is rising strongly, driven by strategic international promotion and record‑breaking visitor numbers.
At the Berlin International Tourism Fair (ITB Berlin 2026), the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) staged a major campaign showcasing the country’s diverse attractions to the European market, with more than 140 tourism professionals representing different regions to strengthen travel flows and partnerships.
The international promotion corresponds with continued growth in visitor arrivals. Morocco welcomed nearly 20 million tourists in 2025, a 14 % increase over the previous year, accompanied by record tourism revenues, reinforcing its global appeal.
