‘Hakimi Is the Best Right‑Back in the World Today’

RabatFormer Brazilian football legend Marcos Evangelista de Morais, known as Cafu, has praised Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi, calling him the “best right‑back in world football” at the moment.

Speaking yesterday during the Laureus World Sports Awards in Madrid, Cafu pointed to Hakimi’s consistent performances for Paris Saint‑Germain and the Moroccan national team.

“Right now, Hakimi stands out without question,” Cafu said. “Considering everything he delivers on the pitch, and what he continues to show with his national team, he makes a difference compared to others. He is the best right‑back in the world.”

Hakimi has built a reputation as one of the most dynamic full‑backs in Europe. Known for his pace, attacking runs, and technical quality, he has also shown defensive resilience and leadership with Morocco, especially during their historic run to the semifinals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

His impact at PSG has been equally significant, where he continues to play a central role in both domestic and European competitions.

This season (2025‑26), Hakimi has made 36 appearances for PSG, scoring 3 goals and providing 7 assists across Ligue 1, the UEFA Champions League, and other tournaments. He has also helped the team keep 16 clean sheets, demonstrating his defensive contribution.

Cafu’s words carry weight given his own standing in football history. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest right‑backs of all time.

Cafu captained Brazil to victory at the 2002 FIFA World Cup and remains the only player to appear in three consecutive World Cup finals (1994, 1998, 2002).

His career included long spells at São Paulo, AS Roma, and AC Milan, where he won multiple league titles and the UEFA Champions League. His recognition of Hakimi reflects the Moroccan’s rise to the elite level of the game.
