Google Launches AI-powered Desktop Search App for Windows

Tetouan – Google has launched a desktop version of its search application for Windows, expanding access to its AI-powered tools beyond the browser and into the core of the user’s workflow.

Now available globally in English, the new Google app for desktop integrates the company’s search capabilities directly into the operating system.

At the center of the experience is AI Mode, which allows users to ask questions in natural language and receive contextual answers supported by links to external sources.

The application is designed to reduce friction between tasks. With a simple keyboard shortcut, users can open a unified search box that pulls results not only from the web, but also from local files, installed applications and cloud storage services such as Google Drive.

It aims to consolidate multiple search environments into a single, continuous interface.

Google is also introducing features intended to maintain workflow continuity.

A built-in screen sharing option enables users to query content while working across documents or browsing sessions, without needing to switch contexts.

In parallel, the integration of Google Lens allows users to interact directly with on-screen content, including translating text within images or identifying visual elements.

The release reflects Google’s broader push to embed artificial intelligence more deeply into everyday computing tasks, positioning search not as a separate activity, but as an always-accessible layer across the desktop environment.
