French Citizen Arrested in Tangier for Drug Trafficking

Rabat – Moroccan police authorities on Tuesday apprehended a 34-year-old French national in Tangier after confirming that he was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by judicial authorities in France.

Officers from the National Judicial Police Brigade carried out the arrest after consulting Interpol’s database.

The system confirmed that the suspect was listed under a red notice circulated at the request of the National Central Bureau in Paris. French investigators suspect his involvement in a cross-border drug trafficking network.

The arrest took place in Tangier, where the man had been located by security services.

Following his detention, Moroccan authorities placed him under extradition procedures in line with the instructions of the competent public prosecutor’s office.

The Interpol National Central Bureau in Rabat, which operates under the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), notified its French counterpart of the arrest.

The two sides will now coordinate the next legal steps pending a formal extradition request.

The case shows Morocco’s continued cooperation with international partners in the fight against transnational crime.

Security services have strengthened coordination mechanisms in recent years to ensure that individuals sought abroad cannot evade justice by crossing borders.
