Flick to Sign New Barcelona Contract

Rabat – Hansi Flick is reportedly set to sign a new contract with Barcelona as soon as the team officially wins the La Liga title.

While the exact date for the signing isn’t fixed yet, both sides have already agreed on the main details, Marca reported earlier today.

The German coach will stay with the Catalan club until 2028, giving the team stability as they look toward the future.

Everything is already decided, Marca indicated, adding that Barcelona now just needs to finish the paperwork. Once the deal is signed, both parties will start planning for next season, which is expected to include several big changes to the player roster.

Barcelona’s president Joan Laporta has always seen Flick as his top choice to lead the team, with reports indicating that he wanted to hire the German tactician even before the club hired Xavi Hernández as manager.

According to converging reports, Laporta would have picked Flick instead of Xavi if it had been possible at the time. However, Flick could not leave his job with the German national team back then.

The German manager eventually joined Barcelona in May 2024, after a key meeting in London with club directors, where he earned the job by presenting a clear tactical plan and a strong belief in La Masia talent.

The 61-year-old made an impact right away, as he led the team to easily win La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Supercopa in his first season. They also came very close to reaching the Champions League final, earning him the first contract extension until 2027.

The new deal guarantees Flick two more seasons, with an option for a third, keeping him in charge for the long term.

Under the German coach’s leadership, the Catalan side currently leads the La Liga table with 85 points, holding a commanding 11-point lead over archrivals Real Madrid.
