Eugen Polanski on Borussia Mönchengladbach’s resurgence: “There’s a definite buzz around the club.”

After failing to win any of their opening eight games of the 2025/26 Bundesliga season, Borussia Mönchengladbach are enjoying a mini-resurgence under new head coach Eugen Polanski with the Foals coming into their Matchday 12 game against RB Leipzig on the back of three straight victories.

Speaking ahead of Friday night’s curtain-raiser, Polanski expects a difficult game against Leipzig.

“Leipzig will head to Mönchengladbach sitting second in the table. Aside from their opening game, they’ve looked incredible so far this season, and so we’re preparing to host a team that are very difficult to beat,” said the 39-year-old.

“Still, though, I can see how we’re performing as a team right now. We definitely need to take the next step forward against a side like Leipzig, but I want us to keep making positive progress regardless of who we’re up against.

“We don’t want to just be satisfied with what we’ve achieved so far, rather, we want to take the good aspects from our last game and keep improving. We know full well what we’re capable of, and we want to be up for the fight against top sides like this one.”

Gladbach haven’t enjoyed three straight wins in the Bundesliga since the end of the 2019/20 season but under Polanski, there’s a renewed buzz within the team.

“The team spirit and the sense of togetherness are really positive at the moment, and so there’s a definite buzz around the club,” added Polanski.

“I just have to make sure that we keep going in this direction, and I know what lies behind our recent success: we’ve worked hard to get to where we are, and we’re determined to keep giving it everything to improve.

“If we keep this approach up, then we’ll be in the perfect position to go even further.”
