Ed Oliver injury will keep Bills DT out against New York Jets in Week 2

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott has declared defensive tackle Ed Oliver out for Sunday’s game against the New York Jets. Oliver injured his left ankle during practice this week when he was stepped on. He was spotted in a walking boot with a knee scooter on Thursday afternoon.

This would seem to indicate second-round pick T.J. Sanders is in line for the first start of his NFL career after playing 31% of the snaps in Week 1. It could also mean third-round pick Landon Jackson makes his NFL debut with the open game day roster spot, especially with Greg Rousseau also limited in practice this week.

Oliver missed three games in 2024 (including sitting out the meaningless Week 18 contest) but has been pretty reliably in the lineup considering the position he plays.

With a short week before Thursday night’s game against the Miami Dolphins, it seems likely Oliver will miss that game as well and take an extended break to heal up.
