Rabat – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has set a strict deadline of 48 hours to issue its ruling on the disciplinary case linked to the AFCON 2025 final between Morocco and Senegal.
The Senegalese Football Federation confirmed in an official statement that it appeared before CAF’s disciplinary committee on Tuesday. The hearing stemmed from official match reports citing fan violence and unsportsmanlike conduct by the Senegalese team, further intensified by pressure from the Moroccan federation to act.
Senegal was represented by its Secretary General, supported by legal counsel Sidiou Diagne. The committee also heard testimony from Senegalese head coach Pape Thiaw, as well as players Ismaila Sarr and Eliman Ndiaye. They presented their defense and responded to questions from the panel.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF)had earlier lodged a formal complaint, citing “serious incidents that undermined the spirit of fair play.” CAF’s disciplinary body confirmed that the case has now been reserved for deliberation.
The chair of the committee stressed that “a final decision will be communicated within 48 hours,” reflecting the urgency of resolving the matter.
The controversy stems from violent clashes and disorder in the AFCON final, which Morocco argued tarnished the integrity of the competition. The outcome of CAF’s ruling could have significant consequences, ranging from fines and suspensions to broader sanctions.
For now, both federations await the verdict. As the Senegalese statement put it, “We have presented our position with transparency and respect for the process.” Morocco, meanwhile, insists that accountability is essential to protect the credibility of African football.
CAF’s decision, expected within two days, will determine whether the tournament’s closing chapter is remembered for sporting achievement or disciplinary fallout.
