Rabat – The body of a seven-year-old girl was found near Oued Abu Hafs close to Zaida, in Midelt province, after she disappeared on Thursday from the village of Ait Hammama in the commune of Itzer.

According to local reports, the child, who was a first-grade student, had been missing under unclear circumstances, which left her family deeply worried.

After being notified of the disappearance, members of the Royal Gendarmerie and auxiliary forces launched search and combing operations under the supervision of the local commander. The child was eventually found dead near the river.

Authorities have reportedly opened an investigation under the supervision of the public prosecutor to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident, which has left residents of the area in shock and deep sadness.

Recent cases of children going missing in Morocco have raised growing concern among citizens.

Chefchaouen has been gripped by concern for more than a week now after the sudden disappearance of Soundous, a two-year-old girl.

Authorities and volunteers have been searching for the young girl nonstop. They found her shoe near a river, which her father recognized, leaving him devastated.

Amid online speculations on the rising number of child disappearances, the Ministry of the Interior has firmly denied claims that it issued a memo to educational institutions warning of a supposed wave of child kidnappings.

The ministry released a statement saying that the information being shared is entirely unfounded.

However, concerned netizens continue to express fear and worry on social media as they call for greater vigilance and stronger measures to ensure children’s safety.
