Bayer Leverkusen Confirms Eliesse Ben Seghir Out for Several Weeks Due to Injury

Rabat – Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed that Eliesse Ben Seghir will be out of action for several weeks after picking up an ankle injury while on international duty with Morocco, which ruled him out of the AFCON final.

The 20-year-old winger did not play in the decisive match between Morocco and Senegal, watching from the stands after sustaining the injury shortly before the final. Leverkusen later confirmed that the problem will require a period of rehabilitation, with the club expecting Ben Seghir to miss several weeks of competition.

“Get well soon, Eliesse,” the Bundesliga club wrote in a message published on its official platforms, confirming the nature of the injury and the expected absence.

    Get well soon, Eliesse! 🙏

Ben Seghir’s setback comes at an awkward moment in his first season in Germany. Since arriving from AS Monaco last summer, the Moroccan international has found opportunities limited, with mainly rotation roles and struggling to establish himself as a regular starter.

The injury now further delays his push for more consistent minutes as Leverkusen continue their domestic and European campaigns.

The injury also adds uncertainty to Ben Seghir’s short-term future. Reports in recent weeks have suggested that a loan move could be considered to help the winger regain rhythm and confidence, with his former club Monaco among the teams linked. Any such move, however, will depend on how quickly he recovers and when he is cleared to return to full training.
