Rabat – Minister of Equipment and Water Nizar Baraka said that dam conditions across Morocco remain stable and under control, despite the exceptional rainfall that has affected several regions of the country.
Baraka made the statement during a meeting of the Ministry’s Vigilance Committee on Wednesday.
Bringing together senior ministry officials and representatives from the relevant river basin agencies, the meeting was dedicated to reviewing the country’s unusual hydrological situation.
Discussions addressed the management of water inflows into dams with high filling rates, as well as precautionary and controlled release operations at certain facilities.
Officials reviewed monitoring data and exchanged views on possible release scenarios, while taking into account weather forecasts and safety requirements.
Participants agreed that the current situation remains stable, even though rainfall volumes reached exceptional levels.
They noted that recent precipitation stood out for its intensity and short concentration periods, which required heightened vigilance and careful coordination.
At the same time, officials pointed to the positive impact of the rainfall after several consecutive years of drought.
The Ministry of Equipment and Water underlined the role of dams in water storage and flood mitigation, especially during episodes of heavy rain.
In a statement published on its official social media platforms, the ministry said that water releases continue to take place gradually and under close supervision, strictly as a safety measure.
These actions take place in coordination with local authorities to protect citizens and ensure the safety of hydraulic infrastructure nationwide.
Morocco has faced unusually heavy rainfall in recent weeks, causing localized floods and placing pressure on several dams across the country.
These conditions come after years of drought, making water management particularly delicate.
