Azoulay Calls Morocco’s Atlantic Vision a Key Marker

The Advisor to King Mohammed VI and Founding President of the Essaouira-Mogador Association, André Azoulay, stated on Saturday in Tangier that Morocco’s Atlantic and African vision serves as a decisive regional marker of Morocco’s centrality and authority.

Speaking at the opening of the international symposium “The African Atlantic Space: What Geopolitical Reinterpretation? A Multidimensional Approach,” Azoulay said that a careful reading of Morocco’s diplomatic history and a rational analysis of its regional strategic leadership, particularly in the 19th century, fully reveal the depth of the Atlantic and African vision carried by King Mohammed VI and welcomed by the Community of Nations.

Azoulay affirmed that Morocco possesses all the assets needed to make the Atlantic strategy a lever for development and regional cooperation, calling for the continuation of this momentum to consolidate the North African country’s position as a regional reference serving a shared and sustainable future.

He noted that the Royal Atlantic Initiative reflects the King’s strategic vision aimed at strengthening Morocco’s positioning as a major player within the African Atlantic space, stressing that this orientation rests on solid historical, geographical, and civilizational foundations, and calling for the promotion of an ambitious Africa based on the values of equality, dignity, and mutual respect.

Azoulay also highlighted that this meeting represents an opportunity to strengthen the partnership between Tetouan and Essaouira around the project of the Tetouan-Essaouira University of Cultural and Heritage Sciences, noting that this initiative aims to make culture a driver of urban development, in line with the Morocco’s choices regarding diversity, pluralism, and social modernity.

Referring to the “Blue University” project in Essaouira, Azoulay explained that this initiative is fully aligned with Morocco’s Atlantic vision, emphasizing that ocean resources constitute a major strategic issue for ecological and food security, as well as for the Morocco’s regional influence, and stressing the need to harness this potential within a scientific and structured approach capable of supporting Morocco’s ambitions in this field.

Organized by the Center for Studies and Research on Hebrew Culture and Law in Morocco, in partnership with Maison Maroc for Peace and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, this event aims to foster multidimensional reflection on the geopolitical and geostrategic dynamics of maritime spaces, with a particular focus on the African Atlantic space.
