Rabat – Moroccan customs and police officials intercepted a major drug trafficking attempt on Saturday, March 7, at around 8:15 a.m. at the Bab Sebta border crossing, seizing 69.8 kilograms of chira hidden inside a vehicle, according to customs sources.

In a joint operation, officers discovered the illicit substance meticulously concealed in multiple compartments of a Fiat Doblo registered in Morocco. The drugs were hidden in the roof, rear side panels, and a specially crafted wooden compartment beneath the vehicle.

The driver, a Moroccan national attempting to leave the country, was handed over to the police at the Bab Sebta border for further investigation under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office. The vehicle and the seized chira remain in the custody of customs authorities.

This latest interception comes just days after another major seizure at the Tangier Med Port, where police uncovered 490 kilograms of chira hidden inside a shipment of fruits destined for a European port.

The drugs were concealed within a trailer attached to a Moroccan-registered international transport truck, highlighting traffickers’ increasingly sophisticated methods to disguise illicit cargo.

These operations highlight the ongoing vigilance of Moroccan authorities in combating drug trafficking at key border points and ports, preventing large quantities of cannabis resin from reaching international markets.
