Rabat – Authorities have evacuated at least 1,338 families, with more than 6,686 individuals, in Sidi Slimane in the northwestern center of Morocco, due to the severe weather.

The evacuation process is part of a broad operation that continues as of Monday.

Moroccan TV outlet SNRTnews said that the evacuated people were transferred to mobilized shelter centers. Some families also traveled to their relatives as part of temporary measures.

On Sunday, arthritis also evacuated about 170 individuals, including those who require urgent care. They were transferred to health centers.

Moroccan authorities are also dispatched to all affected areas and flood-prone areas to evacuate people, while distributing necessary food aid to the affected families.

A weather alert earlier today forecasts more rainfall for Tuesday in several provinces across Morocco, with a risk of hail.

The General Directorate of Meteorology said strong rainfall and stormy weather with a risk of hail are expected to start on Monday and continue until Tuesday at 12 p.m., especially in northern Morocco.

The alert says this weather with 40 to 60 milimeters are expected in the provinces of Tangier-Assilah, M’Diq-Fnideq, Fhas-Anjra, Chefchaouen, Tetouane, Larache, and Ouezzane.

Moroccan security services helped evacuate over 150,000 people in many flood-affected low-lying areas, including in Ksar El Kebir, Sidi Cacem, and others.

In Tetouan, authorities confirmed that four people died and a fifth remains missing after a sudden storm swept through the Lamouawaja village in Bni Harchen, Jbel Lahbib on Saturday last week.

The meteorology directorate attributes the situation in northern Morocco to the indirect influence of Storm Marta, an Atlantic weather system that continues to push humid and unstable air toward the country.

The situation continues to affect classes in northern Morocco.
