Padres Hero Reveals Hilarious Truth About Walk-Off Hit

Padres Hero Reveals Hilarious Truth About Walk-Off Hit originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The San Diego Padres made a flurry of moves at the MLB trade deadline and have reaped the benefits ever since.

Since the deadline, the Padres have a 5-3 record and have already seen some of their acquisitions pay major dividends.

On Saturday night, that was evident once again.

In the bottom of the 10th inning, Ramon Laureano stepped to the plate with two on and one out after Ryan O’Hearn was intentionally walked.

And, Laureano delivered with a chopper that went right over the Boston Red Sox third baseman and sent Xander Bogaerts home to walk it off with a 5-4 win.

Ramon Laureano’s Hilarious Admission After the Win

After the celebration ended, Laureano spoke to reporters and dropped quite an admission: He didn’t know the signs.

“I was thinking to actually hit a homer,” Laureano said. “And then I’m like, I guess they are going to give me the bunt sign, and I don’t know the signs, and then, just, let’s just chop it down.”

He said the same thing in an interview with 97.3 The Fan: “Hit a homer, I didn’t know the sign, so I’m like, let’s chop it down.”

Well, it worked out for Laureano and the Padres.

A bunt would’ve put both runners in scoring position with one out and Jake Cronenworth coming to the plate, but Laureano ended the game instead.

The Padres were active at the deadline and acquired Mason Miller, JP Sears, Nestor Cortes, Ryan O’Hearn, Freddy Fermin and Laureano, among others.

But Laureano has wasted no time getting acclimated after coming over from the Baltimore Orioles.

In eight games as a Padre, he has 10 hits with eight RBIs, four runs scored and a home run. He has also played every game since coming over at the deadline, and now he has a walk-off hit to go along with it.

Laureano’s MLB career began with the then-Oakland Athletics before he spent time with the Cleveland Guardians. In 2024, he was with the Atlanta Braves and began the 2025 campaign with the Orioles, so there have been a lot of stops on the way for the 31-year-old.

But, for now at least, Laureano is playing well and already making a big difference to this San Diego squad.
