Rabat – Thibaut Courtois has set his sights on a high-stakes return, with the medical team optimistic he will be ready for the Clásico on May 10, according to Marca.
If his recovery continues without any obstacles over the next 13 days, the Belgian international is expected to reclaim his spot in the starting lineup when Real Madrid faces their nemesis Barcelona at the Spotify Camp Nou.
The 33-year-old is currently entering the final stage of his rehabilitation. He is scheduled to integrate back into first-team training sessions step by step over the coming days.
Even though the club wants him ready for the big game against the Catalans, they are still being careful. Since the season’s goals are mostly settled, they won’t rush him back or risk a new injury.
Courtois was injured in the first half of the second leg of Champions League against City on March 17. Since then, the team has really struggled. In the seven games he has missed, Madrid has only managed two wins, along with two draws and three losses.
In his first injury, Real Madrid was still competing for the league title and the Champions League. By the time he was ready to return, the team had already been knocked out of Europe and lost their chance at winning the league.
The club is keeping a close watch on his progress before picking an exact date for his return. However, the fact that he is recovering so well is a great sign for both the player himself and the team.
Real Madrid’s title bid ended after the team dropped too many points during a difficult run of matches. They are now 11 points behind league leaders Barcelona
With the trophy out of reach, the club is focused on finishing the season strongly and securing their position in the standings.
