Lewandowski Faces 50% Salary Slash to Stay at Barcelona

Rabat – Barcelona are facing a crucial decision regarding Robert Lewandowski’s future, as the club has reportedly started the first steps of this process.

According to Marca, the club’s sporting leadership met with Lewandowski’s agent, Pini Zahavi, to explain their plan. The club wants the striker to take on a new role in the team’s project.

The 37-year-old joined Barcelona from Bayern Munich in July 2022 in a $45-million-deal, plus another $5 million in possible bonuses.

He signed a four-year contract running until June 2026. With a salary structure that started lower and increased each season

After three strong years at the Camp Nou, the Polish striker is no longer as unstoppable as he was. His goal tally has dropped off over the last few months.

In his first three seasons, Lewandowski was Barcelona’s main scorer, averaging over 30 goals per year and leading the club to a La Liga title. He was an undisputed starter and the team’s main offensive threat under coaches Xavi and Hansi Flick.

This season, however, his output has dropped to 17 goals and he has lost his guaranteed starting spot. A mix of injuries and declining form has seen him move into a secondary role behind younger players.

Barcelona’s sporting department is now offering Lewandowski a new contract with two major changes. A 50% salary cut and a reduced role in the squad, though he could earn some of that back through performance bonuses, but his influence would be far smaller than before.

This decision by Barcelona comes following the club’s intentions in signing a new elite striker this summer, with Julian Alvarez as the main target.
