Morocco, Oman Discuss Strengthening Security Ties

Rabat – Morocco and Oman seek to strengthen and expand cooperation across multiple security fields, including counterterrorism partnerships.

Abdellatif Hammouchi, the General Directorate of National Security and Territorial Surveillance Directorate (DSGN-DGST), received today Oman’s ambassador to Morocco, Khalid bin Salem bin Ahmed Bamakhalif.

The meeting served as a platform to discuss and review bilateral security cooperation between the two countries, a statement from DGSN has said.

Hammouchi and the diplomat also discussed having Morocco and Oman expand the exchange of security information and expertise, as well as cooperation against transnational organized crime.

“Both sides discussed developments and updates related to the security situation at the international and regional levels of the two countries, as well as their implications for international security and stability,” DGSN said.

The meeting also comes as part of larger efforts to secure strong ties between the two countries, the statement concluded, conveying the two nations’ desire to reinforce cooperation across all areas of security.

Hammouchi also held meetings with other officials this week, including with Liberia’s Inspector General of police, Gregory Coleman.

During the meeting, they discussed Morocco’s expertise in counterterrorism and dismantling organized crime networks.

On Monday, Hammouchi met with Indonesia’s ambassador to Morocco, Yuyu Sutisna, to discuss bilateral coordination and progress on implementing existing deals.

Morocco has been viewed by the international community as a strong ally and partner in contributing to the world’s peace and stability, especially given its anti-terrorism experience.

In November last year, the DGSN-DGST chief renewed Morocco’s commitment to contributing to boosting global security during the 93rd General Assembly of Interpol held in Marrakech.

“Morocco’s commitment to hosting the 93rd session of Inteprol stems from its firm dedication to strengthening multilateral security cooperation and its active engagement in consolidating the international coalition against the threats posed by transnational organized crime,” Hammouchi said.
