Morocco’s Weather Office Forecasts Strong Winds, Dust Storms and Cold Temperatures

Rabat – Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) forecasts strong winds and cold weather to hit several provinces on Monday and Tuesday.

The weather office said cold temperatures between -2 and 3 are expected in the provinces of Figuig, Guercif, Jerada, Sefrou, Taza, Al Hoceima and Chefchaouen on Monday and Tuesday.

Temperatures between -6 and -3 degrees Celsius are expected in the provinces of Tinghir, Al Haouz, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Khenifra, Midelt, Ifrane, Boulemane, and Ouarzazate during the same period.

Meanwhile, strong wind gusts with dust storms ranging from 70 to 80 kilometers per hour are expected to hit the provinces of Fuigig, Assazag, and Tata today until 10 p.m.

The same weather is also expected in Sidi-Ifni, Tiznit, Es-Semara, and Guelmim.

Morocco has been embracing sunny weather across many cities in the past few weeks. This came after strong rainfall that started in October last year.

The rainfall contributed to reviving water reserves and ending a seven-year drought in the North African country.

The weather, however, also caused repercussions due to floods nd rising water in several dams that caused evacuations and a state of disaster in different regions, including Larache and Kenitra.

The recent rainfall resulted in a boost in the overall filling rate of dams, which now reached 72.1% as of March 22.

Water storage now stands at 12.3 billion cubic meters, which represents over double the volume recorded at the same time last year.
