Casablanca – In response to the heavy rainfall that recently affected the region, local authorities in Taounate province carried out 1,540 interventions as of February 19.

The operations were conducted under the supervision of the provincial monitoring committee to address damage to infrastructure, restore traffic flow, and ensure continued access to essential services for residents.

According to provincial officials, 973 of the recorded interventions focused on reopening, repairing, and clearing roadways impacted by landslides and mud accumulation.

Several major and secondary routes were affected, including National Road No. 8 linking Fez and Taounate, where teams cleared large amounts of earth at the entrance to the commune of Ouled Daoud.

Work was also carried out on the axis connecting Provincial Roads No. 5322 and No. 5319, which serve multiple rural communities.

Rescue and assistance operations were also deployed to support 381 families, representing 1,549 people. Most of the affected households were able to return to their homes after weather conditions improved.

In parallel, 185 interventions targeted drinking water, electricity, and sanitation networks. Crews repaired damaged pipes and hydraulic structures, restored electrical equipment, and secured fallen infrastructure, including a metal electricity pole in the commune of Bouarous.

Efforts extended to rural areas across several communes. Tracks leading to douars such as Bouita in Aïn Aïcha, Bab Khidour in Bssabsa, Msassa in Imsassa, Zrarqa in Outabouabane, and Rzine in Ouled Aïad were rehabilitated. Additional work was conducted in Ras El Oued within the Tissa circle.

In the Taounate circle, teams repaired a road structure on the Amassin route, reinforced a connecting track from Regional Road No. 503, treated sections damaged by erosion, and reopened the road linking the douars of Ryayna and Swahel in Beni Oualid toward Beni Frassen in Taza province. The Al Matmir bridge over Oued Asra was cleaned and partially repaired following a collapse.

Similar operations were carried out in the circles of Ghafsai and Kariat Ba Mohamed, including the reopening of Regional Road No. 506 and the repair of bridges, engineering structures, and damaged provincial roads.

Authorities stated that coordination between local officials, security services, civil protection, technical departments, territorial collectivities, and road project companies made the interventions possible, and efforts remain ongoing to secure the provincial road network.
