The Indian Embassy in Morocco commemorated in Rabat on Monday India’s 77th Republic Day. The embassy hosted a distinguished reception on the evening of January 26, which was marked by diplomatic warmth and the attendance of several high-profile guests.

Diplomatic missions in Morocco, Indian nationals residing in Morocco, Moroccan alumni of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) program, and journalists, all raced the celebration with their presence.

This annual official ceremony, commemorating the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of India and the country’s transition to a republic, has brought out the enduring friendship between India and Morocco. A joint address delivered by Sanjay Rana, the Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Morocco and Leila Benali, Morocco’s Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, expressed shared visions of deepening bilateral ties and expanding avenues of cooperation.

In his opening speech, the Indian Ambassador reflected on the significance of the Republic Day, commemorating the adoption of India’s Constitution in 1950, and emphasized the values of ambition and progress that continue to guide the nation. He then expressed gratitude for the strong and growing partnership with Morocco, noting the increasing bilateral collaboration in key areas such as industry, energy, and capacity building.

Minister Leila Benali, speaking on behalf of the Moroccan government, echoed the same convictions and determination in her speech. She highlighted the origins of the strong bonds between Morocco and India, which date back to the famous visit of Ibn Battuta to India in the 14th century. In addition, the minister emphasized the synergy between Morocco’s and India’s shared aspirations, affirming Morocco’s commitment to working closely with the Republic of India on joint projects that address the common good of the two peoples.

The evening featured a cultural segment that included Indian classical music and a display of traditional Moroccan handicraft by Moroccan entrepreneur Amine Dadda, who presented exquisitely embroidered Indian and Moroccan flags. Guests also enjoyed a selection of Indian cuisine showcasing its rich culinary heritage.

The 77th Republic Day in Rabat honored India’s constitutional legacy while also serving as a testament to the enduring and evolving partnership between India and Morocco. The growing bilateral relationship is rooted in shared values and a common vision for a sustainable and prosperous future.
