Rabat – The US and France missions in Morocco have extended their condolences to the families who lost their relatives during the devastating floods in Safi.

The French embassy shared on its social platforms a message in French and Arabic, extending its sincere condolences to the families and relatives of the Safi flood victims.

The US embassy echoed the same statement, extending condolences to communities affected by the recent floods.

“Our thoughts are with you all,” the US embassy wrote.

The floods killed at least 37 people as of Monday morning. Fourteen people are receiving treatment at local medical facilities. Two of the victims are in intensive care.

Dozens of people were discharged after receiving medical care, according to local authorities.

Videos online show horrific and disturbing scenes, with streets completely covered in water while cars are almost floating. One of the distressing videos shows a trapped woman crying for help as rising waters engulf the area. Nearby residents struggled to assist her. The footage, widely shared on social media, has left viewers shaken.

The rescue and emergency operations are still ongoing, with an investigation underway to determine the circumstances of the case.

The provincial prefecture in Safy hosted an emergency meeting to review the city’s overall situation following the floods.

The provincial directorate of the Education Ministry suspended all classes at all educational institutions for three days due to adverse weather conditions.

Morocco’s Road Safety Agency issued a warning today, urging drivers and road users to exert maximum caution as rainfall and snowfall are expected to continue until Wednesday.
