Rabat – Rabat welcomed the Embassy of Kazakhstan today as it celebrated Kazakhstan’s Independence Day at the National Library of Morocco.

The event, held this afternoon, brought together diplomats, cultural figures, and students to reflect on the long-standing diplomatic and cultural ties between the two countries.

    Ambassador Sailaukyzy: a historic presence

Speaking to Morocco World News (MWN) on the sidelines, Saulekul Sailaukyzy, Kazakhstan’s ambassador to Morocco, emphasized her unique role as an active link in the ties between the two countries.

“I am the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Morocco. I am the first female ambassador from Kazakhstan. We opened our embassy in 2021. Our diplomatic relations were established in 1992. Since then, cooperation between our two countries has been very active,” she explained.

She described Independence Day as “one of our most important holidays,” noting the significance of celebrating national milestones abroad.

A journey from Morocco to Kazakhstan

One of the highlights of the program was a presentation by Abdelghani Aboufirass, who traveled by motorcycle from Morocco to Kazakhstan.

His film documented the journey and offered insights into the landscapes, cultures, and people connecting the two countries.

“He showed his beautiful film and shared his impressions of the journey,” Ambassador Sailaukyzy noted.

The event’s most memorable moment came from the students of Le Printemps school, who performed cultural presentations reflecting the shared values and connections between Morocco and Kazakhstan.

The ambassador commended the students’ efforts in showcasing both countries’ cultures, traditions, and visions for the future.

“What I find particularly important today is the participation of the Spring School students. They became the stars of the evening because, as an ambassador, I was not involved in their preparation,” said Sailaukyzy.

The ambassador commended the students’ efforts in showcasing both countries’ cultures, traditions, and visions for the future.

“We saw their perspectives, the visions of the children and their parents, and how they prepared. They presented both Morocco and Kazakhstan as close friends. They shared stories, culture, customs, and the future of cooperation between our two countries,” she added.

    Multilingual presentations reflect cultural diversity

Students delivered their presentations in English, French, Arabic, and Amazigh, demonstrating Morocco’s multicultural heritage and the growing importance of cultural diplomacy.

Ambassador Sailaukyzy expressed her optimism for the next generation of leaders: “I am confident that one day, one of these children will become an ambassador of Morocco to Kazakhstan. Their presentations were truly impressive.”

The celebration showed not only the historical and diplomatic ties between Morocco and Kazakhstan but also the role of youth, education, and cultural exchange in shaping the future of bilateral relations.

    Enduring ties

Through events like these, the two countries continue to strengthen their partnership, fostering mutual understanding and cooperation.

Morocco and Kazakhstan have steadily deepened their relationship since establishing diplomatic ties in 1992.

In 2024, the two countries signed a mutual visa‑free travel agreement, allowing holders of ordinary passports to travel between Morocco and Kazakhstan for up to 30 days without a visa.

This agreement is considered a significant milestone for tourism, business, and people‑to‑people exchanges.

Economically, cooperation has expanded beyond diplomacy, with the recent creation of a Kazakhstan-Morocco Business Council to promote trade, investment, and joint ventures in sectors such as energy, agriculture, logistics, IT, and infrastructure.

The partnership also extends to agriculture and commerce, with Morocco exporting seafood and citrus fruits and importing cereals, cotton, and hydrocarbons from Kazakhstan, reflecting a complementary trade profile rooted in natural resources and agro‑food exchanges.
