Rabat – India has launched an investigation into a fire that ripped through a nightclub in Goa, killing 25 people.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced on X a magisterial inquiry into the entire incident to identify the cause and fix responsibility for the fire.

At least 50  people were injured due to the devastating fire. According to the Times of India

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he spoke to Sawant, extending condolences to the families of the victims.

He said his government will offer $2,200 in compensation to each victim’s family.

“The fire mishap in Arpora, Goa, is deeply saddening,” the prime minister said. He also wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.

Reports said the killed victims include four tourists and 14 workers. The incident occurred at midnight on Sunday following a gas cylinder explosion.

Rescuers rushed several people into emergency vehicles, video clips and images online have shown.

Videos also showed thick smoke rising from the area of the incident.

Security services emphasized that at least three of the victims died from burn injuries. Others died from suffocation

This is not the first time a similar devastating incident has taken place in India. According to Al Jazeera, one incident in May killed at least 17 people when a fire ripped through a building.

In April,  a blaze also broke out in a hotel, killing at least 15 people.
