Rabat – Moroccan athlete Amina Dehhaoui has put on a stunning performance at the U21 Taekwondo World Championships in Kenya, winning the gold medal.

She defeated Brazil’s Rocha Liz in the round of 16, Poland’s Liswoka Nikol in the quarterfinals, Iran’s Mohammadi Hasti in the semifinals, and Spain’s Carla Sesar 2-0 in the final on Thursday.

With this victory, Morocco now has three medals at the tournament, after Nezha Elaasal (-49 kg) and Imane Khayari (73 kg) won bronze medals the previous day.

Other winners included Turkiye’s Sude Yaren Uzuncavdar, who took gold in the women’s under 73 kg category, defeating Haiti’s Ava Soon Lee in the final. Russia’s Polina Shvedkova won the bronze.

In the men’s under 63 kg category, Turkiye’s Hamza Osman Aydogan took gold, Bulgaria’s Stanislav Mitkov finished second, and India’s Nitesh Singh won bronze.

Abdelhak Moujahid, head of the Moroccan delegation, told MAP that the championship is a major international event, with nearly 100 countries participating, including strong nations like Iran, South Korea, Kazakhstan, and Turkiye. He said Morocco’s results show the national team’s competitive level and the strong potential of young athletes.

Moujahid celebrated the performances of Elaasal and Khayari, as well as Dehhaoui’s technical skill and mastery.

This first edition of the U21 Taekwondo World Championship featured top countries such as Korea, Russia, China, France, and Iran.
