Rabat – Morocco women’s national team lost 2–0 to South Africa in a friendly match played on at Adrar Stadium in Agadir.

The game was part of Morocco’s preparation for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), set to take place in Morocco from March 17 to April 3 next year.

It also marked the reopening of the renovated Adrar Stadium, only days before the Africa Cup of Nations.

The first half ended goalless, with both teams sharing possession equally at 50%. Morocco had 5 free kicks and committed 3 fouls, while South Africa earned 1 corner, 3 free kicks, and committed 5 fouls. Neither side received cards, and no offsides were recorded.

In the second half, South Africa took control. Nonhlanhla Mthandi scored the opening goal in the 70th minute, breaking the deadlock. Noxolo Cesane added a second in the 86th minute to secure the win.

Morocco struggled to create clear chances and could not respond to South Africa’s late pressure.

This was the first meeting between the two teams since the 2022 WAFCON final, where South Africa defeated Morocco 2–1 to lift the trophy in Rabat.

The result continues South Africa’s strong record against Morocco, while the Atlas Lionesses remain focused on improving ahead of the 2026 tournament.

For captain Ghizlane Chebbak and her teammates, the loss is a reminder of the work needed to challenge Africa’s top sides and finally bring the WAFCON trophy home.
