Rabat – Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi has been named one of the three finalists for the 2025 CAF Player of the Year award.

The 27-year-old joins Egypt’s Mohamed Salah and Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen in the final shortlist announced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Sunday.

Hakimi’s nomination follows an outstanding season with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), where he played a key role in helping the club win four major trophies: the UEFA Champions League, Ligue 1, Coupe de France, and the Trophée des Champions.

PSG also reached the final of the FIFA Club World Cup, with Hakimi starting in all key matches.

In the 2024/25 season, Hakimi recorded 6 goals and 4 assists in Ligue 1, and added 5 goals and 4 assists in the Champions League.

He also contributed defensively with 10 clean sheets and over 3,400 minutes played across all competitions. His performances earned him spots in the UEFA Champions League Team of the Season, Ligue 1 Team of the Season, and the CAF Team of the Year.

Hakimi also won the Marc-Vivien Foé Award as the best African player in Ligue 1 and ranked 6th in the Ballon d’Or 2024 voting.

With Morocco, he helped the national team qualify early for the 2026 World Cup and contributed to their record-breaking run of 16 consecutive wins, the longest in international football history.

This is Hakimi’s second consecutive year reaching the final shortlist for CAF’s top individual award.

He finished as runner-up in 2024 behind Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman, and now enters 2025 as one of the favorites.

Nigeria won the last two editions with Osimhen (2023) and Lookman (2024), but Hakimi’s achievements at both club and national level make him a strong contender to break that streak.

The winner will be announced at the CAF Awards ceremony in Rabat on Wednesday, November 19 at 7:00 p.m. (GMT+1).
